We take on the energy of our guests in our chair and it can be quite exhausting! We don't take the time to clear that energy at the end of the day. Spring is in the (h)air!! 🌸 The flowers and trees are blooming and vibrant with color! It's also that time of year that we want to go lighter with our hair color or even get a fresh hairstyle!! 💇🏻‍♀️💈 It's also the perfect time to try a new product line. What about a sustainable and cleaner line? One that respects the Earth and celebrates its beauty? What about a line that doesn't give off harsh chemicals? Have you done your research? Trying to find balance.. A word I didn't know for

Trying to find balance.. A word I didn't know for years! I have been a single mom for the majority of my kiddos lives. Very proud of that accomplishment (my first born is about to go to college!! 1 down, 2 to go✨🙌). So for me, I gladly put my career first. Knowing that I was the bread winner and driven to prove that you can have a career and raise kids. ✅ 23 years as a stylist behind the chair, 15 as a salon owner (who always had, "an idea"), and 5 as an educator. What energy I had left after giving it to my guests and team all day, the kids received from me. Which was not always a lot depending on how the day went or what fires needed to be put out. Let's just say there wasn't a ton of time left over to recharge me. There had to be a better way! I started going to the gym. 5 A.M. wake up, get dressed, and drive. Then have to wait for equipment. No thanks. Then it was a yoga studio, same timeframe and not feeling comfortable. There were so many other things I tried. I couldnt make anything stick. It was always just adding to the energy suck of my day. For me, this just didn't work. One day I woke up at the decent hour of 6 A.M, started my coffee, pieced together a few vinyasa moves I had learned for a total of 30 mins and naturally started to meditate after the routine. IT WORKED!! I was in the comfort of my own living room, no commute, no mirrors everywhere (so you can watch your....progress😜💪 and everyone elses as they watch yours). It was quiet and just me with my thoughts and feelings. I practiced learning the ability to positively charge my energy and calm my thoughts before each day began. I had found my balance. I have been doing that same routine for 7 years now. I try to do it everyday, but some days get away from me. That's when I remind myself that I need balance. I am no longer behind the chair and I sold my salon a year ago. However, as I embark on this next exciting chapter of my life, I remind myself to start the day focusing on me and what I need in order to have enough to give to myself and to others. Like they say, "you can't pour from an empty cup"!! I challenge everyone to find balance at the beginning your day. Be selfish.✨🫶

Since I can remember, I have been into recycling!

Since I can remember, I have been into recycling! Crushing cans was a chore in our house. My dad would even remove the little metal piece off of a dental floss container🤭 That's how seriously we took it. So I started thinking, why aren't we this serious about it in the beauty/hair industry? I started doing hair 24 years ago and we didn't have the resources for recycling. So I started a recycling program (that consisted of me taking the cardboard home😜) which went over like a ton of bricks with the other stylists🤷‍♀️. So a little over 10 years ago, I was connected with @greencirclesalons. I immediately called them to find out more about their company and their mission. I was blown away at what we could recycle and repurpose🤯. They sent me the individual containers for hair, used foils, used color tubes, a bag and container for the extra color that is not used during a service, and broken tools. Every year we recycle somewhere between 300-500lbs of waste. Significantly reducing waste and greenhouse gases! Not too long ago they added PPE to the items they collect and properly dispose of🙌😷 I encourage every stylist and salon to look into recycling programs. Salons are one of the top industries contributing to greenhouse gases🫤 Together we can change this. It's the direction the industry is going! Jump on board. There is nothing better than having someone else shampoo your hair!! 💆‍♀️ BUT those sacred minutes and manipulations are costly!! A stylist can use between 14-20 gallons of water per guest.😳 Luckily installing a more efficient, low flow aerator on the faucet and showerheads can cut back on the consumption significantly! Also, being aware of the amount of product being used that causes longer rinse times, can have an impact as well. So lean back and enjoy your locks and scalp being pampered ❣️

#earlysaturdaymornings Friday is a Thursday to most hair stylists..... We even thrive on Saturday mornings after a long week!☕+🥐 The demand on a hairstylists body is physical, emotional and mental. The saying about stylists being a hair-apist is real! So when we talk sustainability, we need to include sustainable working hours. The demand isn't sustainable. There is so much that goes into one guests appointment! The engagement, the consultation so you know your on the same page, the physical act of the cut and/or color, the perfect shampoo and then the finishing touches X 4-6 a day ✨ We are magic....🪄 It's just NOT sustainable to work like that🥴 Especially for most stylists who are behind the chair for 10+ years!! I want to give every stylist out there permission to treat yourself to an extra day off (yes, you can. Save one day of earnings every week). Be good to your body, mind and soul. It will keep your magic alive! Welcome to the weekend!!
